Janet Jackson and Julia Fox kick off New York Fashion Week

The chic is back in the week.

After years of New York Fashion Weeks that have been more bleak than glamorous even before the pandemic hit them, this season’s event seems to be showing signs of prime life.

Technically, fashion’s biggest week starts on Friday, but stars like Janet Jackson and Julia Fox are already taking advantage.

Jackson kicked off NYFW at Jazz at Lincoln Center on Tuesday, where Harlem’s Fashion Row and LVHM honored her with their “Icon of the Year” award.

Issa Rae, Sergio Hudson and Robin Givhan were honored earlier in the evening at the Harlem Fashion Row 15th Anniversary Fashion Show and Style Awards at General Grant National Memorial in Harlem.

Unlike his fellow nominees, Jackson received his award fashionably late at the after party because, “I literally just flew in from London,” he told the crowd.

Celebrity stylist Wouri Vice dressed Jackson in Off-White FW22, the late Virgil Abloh’s latest collection for the brand. Miss Jackson was later seen partying with Amanda Lepore and Susanne Bartsch at the latter’s weekly “On Top” party at Le Bain.

Indie inner-city fashionista Julia Fox, meanwhile, was partying at David Rabin’s American Bar, where her brand manager, Kendall Werts, celebrated the fifth anniversary of her talent agency, The Jeffries.

Werts’ client Evan Mock played tunes at the event, and George Wayne and Aoki Lee Simmons, the daughter of Kimora Lee and Russell Simmons, were also on the scene.

Werts told us that the party “felt like Studio 54.”

And the festivities have only just begun.

On Thursday, Fotografiska organizes two parties. Gigi Hadid and Diane von Furstenburg will host the book launch dinner and after party for UK Vogue editor Edward Enninful at the venue’s Veronika restaurant.

Photographer David La Chapelle will also host friends such as Naomi Campbell, Heidi Klum, Doja Cat, Paris Hilton and Daphne Guinness for his “make Believe” exhibit. The party will take place throughout the museum and in the Chapel Bar, we’re told.

And of course, the party’s mayor, Eric Adams, has to get in on all the fashion action. We hear he’s hosting a CFDA party with Anna Wintour at Gracie Mansion on Thursday. Wintour is also expected to attend a dinner at Indochine hosted by Dior’s Kim Jones and Marc Jacobs on Friday night. We hear that Saint Laurent and J. Crew have also purchased the event restaurant.

Fashion icon Grace Jones will also make an appearance at the party this week. The superstar will celebrate a new Boy Smells candle named after her at Public Hotel.

Bose is also hosting an event featuring a musical performance by The Strokes and designer Heron Preston.

The Daily will hold its annual Fashion Media Awards, which always spotlight both media and star power. Busy Philipps is hosting this year’s event. The fashion publication will also host a party at the Hard Rock Hotel.

Harpers Bazaar will host its glamorous Icons event, switching venues this year from the Plaza to Bloomingdale’s. Jack Harlow will perform.
