It’s not your thyroid, it’s your lifestyle

When it comes to our current world, we have been hearing the term hypothyroidism, Hashimoto’s disease or PCOS more and more. In fact, it is getting worse, with nearly 8-10 million currently diagnosed.

Given that our country is more reliant on supplements than any other country, yet still has the highest ranking for obesity… we have a lot to think about when it comes to our “treatment” options.

Unfortunately, the thyroid may not be to blame for many of the diagnosed claims.

If the blood work is not correct, many doctors will assume it is a disease and start the medication route.

This is a problem because you will be prescribed thyroid hormone replacement, which is a lifelong medication for many, when in fact, many people are only dealing with a shorter period due to stress, diet, or overtraining and undereating.

If you add all three together, then yes, your thyroid will shake!

Everyone wants to blame the thyroid for everything. The thyroid along with the pituitary support the endocrine system, but are not usually the cause.

Hypothyroidism levels are greatly affected by many factors. It should be noted that suboptimal levels of thyroid hormone are not “hypothyroid.”

Birth control, excessive dieting, intense stress, endurance sports, gut health, nutrient deficiency, viral infections, high levels of toxicity, lack of sleep, and many medications are just a few of the things that affect the thyroid.

Plus:The same calories do not have the same impact on everyone

That’s why free t3 can initially be knocked out and all of a sudden it’s too scary for people to start taking medication. Your Free T3 is the thermal king of caloric expenditure, so when it’s affected, your rate of fat loss can be drastically affected. What many forget is that when your body is under stress, thyroid function declines. Even recent research has shown that short bouts of anaerobic exercise can decrease thyroid function by 30-40%!

Many of you don’t stop there, do you?

You stop losing weight, so you not only work out more, but diet harder, and sometimes even sacrifice more sleep for longer workouts. This is what I call the dirty double analogy of running from a bear with a hawk chasing you overhead… basically you’re screwed in every area!

You seem to feel stuck and think it’s your thyroid.

To get a starting point, start with iodine, selenium, zinc, more rest, consistent cardio, a high-carb Mediterranean diet, and stress reduction. It doesn’t help that 1 in 3 Americans don’t get enough sleep. A sure way to quickly affect thyroid production is to skimp on sleep.

Also, the tests you get if you don’t get help after this should include Reverse T3, not just TSH, Free T3, and 4. A higher Reverse T3 can indicate true metabolic resistance due to a poor 4 to 3 conversion.
