Decentraland has announced the return of Metaverse Fashion Week from March 28-31, 2023.

Cross metaverse associations, interoperable wearables, intermetaverse teleportation, an avatar ‘supermodel’ ambassador, and even CFDA recognition (of sorts) make for an interesting follow-up.

The virtual fashion event initiated by Decentraland and immersive arts and culture platform UNXD will follow the IRL runways from New York, London, Milan and Paris. For this second installment, Decentraland will partner with two additional metaverses: photorealistic spatial AR and AR enabled OVER.

One of the main things that limited the scope of the first Metaverse Fashion Week outing back in March was the fact that Decentraland wearables, for the most part, could only be used in Decentraland by Decentraland avatars.

However, the technology has been developed over the ensuing eight months. Creators of digital fashion NFTs originating outside of Decentraland can now embed a Linked Wearable feature (a 3D representation of said NFT), which means they can be assigned (used) to multiple metaverses (via Player Me Ready avatars in the case de Spatial) – as confirmed after a deep dive with the Decentraland team.

While the linked component has no additional resale value or rarity per se, (so far), beyond the original NFT, it is essentially a solution that makes a wearable interoperable and portable.

In addition to the Decentraland Metaverse Fashion Week hub, satellite runways and events will take place at Spatial and OVER. Brands have the option of replicating their shows on each one or presenting them simultaneously on all three at the same time.

Think of the metaverse equivalent of Louis Vuitton and Prada recreating their European fashion shows in Shanghai for the Chinese market. The difference is that attendees of the metaverse show will be able to teleport their avatar between the three metaverses through portals in each, again confirmed by the Decentraland team.

Metaverse Fashion Week 2.0 will feature a supermodel avatar ambassador. A member of the Decentraland community, Tangpoko is nicknamed a supermodel because, unlike regular Decentraland avatars, she has her own custom-designed body, either by avatar genetics or the metaverse equivalent of cosmetic enhancement, her curves. enviable would give Kim Kardashian a run for her money. Or her Mana (FNI Mana is the DCL currency).

Miami Fashion Week will also be involved with an activation and runway shows on the rooftop of its recently opened “L’Atelier” in the luxury fashion district of Decentraland. Focusing on beachwear, Miami Fashion Week is a real-life event officially recognized by America’s fashion governing body. , the CFDA, (Missoni made a special appearance in its June 2022 issue) this is another step towards Metaverse Fashion Week gaining more mainstream appeal.

While the Metaverse Fashion Week lineup won’t be announced until January 2023, already announced returning partners are Threedium 3D/AR Commerce Engine, Boson Protocol that allows digital tokens to be redeemed for physical items, and DressX, the fashion retailer world’s largest digital The event will feature a reality show component: a runway event featuring Barth, winner of HBO’s “The Hype,” where streetwear designers compete for supremacy.

For the inaugural Metaverse Fashion Week in March this year, Decentraland hosted digital spaces and events from traditional luxury brands such as Tommy Hilfiger, Selfridges, Paco Rabanne, Hogan and Philipp Plein alongside digital natives DressX, Auroboros and Republiqe.

Decentraland is creating a curator advisory board to select participating designers. Board members include the Digital Fashion Institute and The Fabricant. Pre-registration for the public is now open. Brands, designers and retailers interested in participating in MVFW23 can apply here.
