Sport Hybrids represent the modern dress code of comfort, the word for S/S 23
Sporting influences have seeped in and out of the shoe over the past two seasons; From the original runners, sneakers, and Tavas inspiration, footwear continues to embrace the comfort factor.
There aren’t many conveniences that feel as necessary as having a shoe that puts comfort first. Designers like Simone Rocha, Collina Strada, Jil Sander and JW Anderson create shoes with thicker, more supportive soles that also have a little something extra. And it’s the slip-on variety that’s doing it in the first place. The prophetic mule maintains the shape throughout the foot, but the sole and midsole change. JW Anderson’s luminous green flip flops feature enough rhinestones to glow in the dark, but also comes in a simpler version with a clog toe. Collina Strada’s easy slip-on shoe (which has partnered with Brazil-based shoe brand Melissa to highlight the need for sustainable design and, by the way, is 100% recyclable) embraces the idea of coordinated ballerinas with a futuristic version of the sports sole. Stella McCartney wraps the ankles with ties but keeps the shape light and easy. Andreas Kronthaler defends simplicity in a two-tone example of simple chic.
Botter and Adidas teamed up again for an SS23 campaign dubbed “The Sea of Plastic.” Exploring the idea of incorporating ‘water’ into the collection, the shoe, made from a premium knit upper with three stripes, appears as if the shoes are floating. “While they are not floating, the tag creates an illusory perception of moving through the water by placing a bulky clear sole on traditional Predator Edge models.”
