Herschel’s lifestyle contradicted what he supposedly stood for

The following is a lightly edited transcript of comments made by Amani Wells-Onyioha during a Newsweek debate on the results of the Senate runoff in Georgia. You can listen to the podcast here:

Many Republicans in Georgia might be disappointed just because they hoped that Herschel Walker could align with a lot of their other favorites, like Ted Cruz down there for him, and they hoped to get more of their agenda done, or at least have a better chance of blocking, or being an obstacle to at least some of the things the Democrats were trying to do. It’s a small margin, it’s a small majority, but at the same time we at least have a chance for faster change in the Senate. At the end of the day, it’s just a seat, but I’m glad it leaned this way.

Herschel Walker blames the Republican Party

I don’t think the media coverage of Walker was unfair at all, they were just putting a lens on what the man is like. There were so many times we got to hear him speak throughout this election campaign where a lot of things that came up were just irrelevant, he was going off on tangents about random things, and it didn’t seem like he had any major platform or position of his own. Herschel Walker was elected simply so that he could agree with whatever the Republicans who have been in office the longest, the Republicans who have an agenda, have on their minds. They selected him because they thought he would be a very easy person, that he wouldn’t have big opinions of his own, that he would be happy to be there and go along with whatever they wanted to do. My main takeaway from Herschel was that he wasn’t passionate about anything in any way, especially since his lifestyle contradicted many things he was supposed to stand for.
