Pop singer Becky G has rejected claims that she copied the branded products and designs of an independent cosmetics company after its founder said the similarities were “unbelievable”.

LatinX-inspired brand Araceli Beauty was launched in 2018 by Mexican Araceli Ledesma. She wanted to create a beauty brand to stand out in a crowded market that reflected her Mexican heritage.

Ledesma first launched an eye collection, Jalisco Eyes Kit, to pay homage to her home state of Jalisco. The kits are made with agave oil sourced from Mexico and have an illustration of agave on the packaging.

Pop singer Becky G, whose heritage traces back to Jalisco in Mexico, launched Treslúce Beauty last year with an agave-enriched eyeshadow palette. The packaging also features an image of agave.

“I put all my soul into my beauty brand and feel stripped away from years of hard work,” Ledesma said.

“My goal in shedding light on this situation is not to bring anyone down; it is to give entrepreneurial women entrepreneurs and independent creators the value they deserve.”

Ledesma included his signature and a personal message on the packaging. Treslúce Beauty also has a signature and note on the packaging of the palette.

Araceli worked with people in Mexico to develop a handmade bag that comes free with matching eye kit packaging, just like Treslúce Beauty.

Araceli kits also come with a sticker sheet, which includes an agave plant and Mexico’s national flower, the dahlia flower. Treslúce products also come with a sticker sheet featuring an agave plant and a dahlia flower.

Ledesma said she was surprised to receive Treslùce’s PR launch package at her Araceli Beauty office when it was initially launched and that the similarities between the brands go beyond eye kits.

Becky G addressed the allegations in a video posted to Treslùce’s Instagram account last week, saying that Jalisco is known and celebrated for its agave and that Mexico has only one national flower.

“The few ingredients in Treslúce products that they are infused with are native to Mexico, not owned by a specific place or person,” Becky G said in the video. “All of these items were extremely important to me, the brand, and were inspired by my life experiences and culture. It was not stolen.”

Treslúce Beauty and its partner, MadeBy Collective, did not respond to Insider’s request for comment.
