San Antonio (August 29, 2022) – San Antonio International Airport (SAT) is poised for a surge in travel this Labor Day weekend. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) expects the heaviest traffic to hit the holiday weekend with more than 30,000 passengers between the Thursday and Friday before Labor Day. That’s more than in 2021, when there were a total of 27,013 people tested during those same two days.

“We are delighted to see more travelers at the airport. Many of those passengers have not flown in years due to the pandemic and are ready for a vacation,” said Jesús H. Sáenz, Director of Airports for the San Antonio Airport System. “The airport is getting busier, but it’s still easy to navigate. Still, it’s important to arrive early so you have time to check in, go through security, and get to the gate. All passengers are encouraged to arrive at least two hours before their flight’s boarding time.”

To prepare for a stress-free travel experience, everyone should consider the following:

Check flight status online: Passengers can check the status of their flight before leaving home and receive email alerts from the airline. Visit www.flysanantonio.com to check the status of your flight.

Print your boarding pass in advance: Passengers can print boarding passes at home or download them to their cell phones before arrival or they can use the convenient airline check-in kiosk at the airport.

Parking Availability: There are 8,991 parking spaces between the Short Term (1,238), Long Term (5,305) and Economic Lots [formerly Green / Red Lots] (2,448). The Economy Lot is the cheapest and includes a FREE shuttle that runs every 6 minutes.

Pay attention to Park Assist: Take advantage of the Park Assist system to guide you to available spots. Upon entering the parking space, signs indicate the number of parking spaces available within the short-term lot. Park Assist uses a green light for available spots, red for unavailable, and blue for available ADA/disabled parking. You can visit the airport website or use the Park Assist app and find out the number of available parking spaces before you leave.

Use the cell phone lot to pick up: Use the convenient cell phone lot while you wait for your party. The cell phone lot also has a digital monitor that provides real-time updates on arrival status.

Ask for help: Our friendly ambassadors and staff are here to help, so if you have questions, ask them.

@AskTSA: Travelers with questions about security, or items they may or may not bring on their trip, can contact a TSA employee for live assistance 365 days a year by sending questions and comments to @AskTSA.

Use your time online wisely: While in line at security, remove items from your pockets, such as wallets, keys, lip balm, tissues, and cell phones, and place them in carry-on luggage rather than placing items from pockets directly into bins .

Be prepared: Be prepared when you enter the checkpoint line. Have acceptable identification and a boarding pass ready to give to the TSA officer.

Electronics: Electronic devices larger than a cell phone, including e-readers and tablets, must be removed from your carry-on bag and placed in bins with nothing on top or underneath (this rule does not apply to TSA Pre✓® passengers).

Weapons: Firearms cannot go in carry-on baggage. Prohibited items cause delays at checkpoints. Download the free myTSA app, which has a handy “What can I bring?” function that allows you to write the element to find out if it can fly.

Follow the 3-1-1: Liquids, gels, and aerosols cannot exceed the 3-1-1 ounce rule in your carry-on bag. Notify the TSA officer immediately if you are traveling with large amounts of medically necessary liquids.

TSA Attention: Travelers or families of passengers with disabilities and medical conditions can call the TSA Cares Helpline toll-free at 1-855-787-2227 with questions or for assistance 72 hours before traveling. Service members and injured veterans can contact TSA Cares to help facilitate the screening process.

Wheelchair assistance: If you are traveling with someone who needs wheelchair assistance, please contact the airline before you arrive at the airport.

Children traveling alone: If you have a child traveling alone (unaccompanied minor) and wish to accompany them to the gate, please make arrangements with the airline to receive a gate access pass.

Availability of Aira: Aira is available to all blind or visually impaired travelers free of charge on SAT. Aira allows users to use their cell phones, or specially designed subscriber glasses, to be guided through the airport by an outside agent, this can include locating a restroom, navigating busy terminals or finding a place to relax, all designed to return . independence to our visually impaired passengers. Visit www.aira.io for more information.
