Five tips to help you crush your fantasy basketball drafts

The NBA season starts next Tuesday, and if you’re anything like me, you’ll be knocking out your final fantasy drafts this weekend. Without knowing your league setup or format, I posted a video with three tips to help you prepare for your fantasy basketball drafts (see above). I have more to say though, so here are five additional tips below to help you complete last minute and master your drafts!

Use the Yahoo Draft Analysis Tool

Do you want to know where the players are recruited? The Draft Analysis tool is the easiest and best way to do it. By evaluating the average draft position (ADP) for a particular player, Yahoo is essentially running market analysis on its draft platform to learn when players are selected. ADP is a valuable data point when building a fantasy team because you’ll want to make decisions based on the latest market trends. Which can sometimes be seen as an overcorrection (an opportunity to capitalize on falling value) or a reaction to new information (such as LaMelo Ballrecent ankle injury).

Ratings aren’t one-size-fits-all, but similar to ADP, they’re another data point that can help fantasy managers come draft time. It is impossible to predict the correct outcome for each player. However, you can get an idea of which players are higher or lower than the ADP. If I am higher than a person, it is very likely that I have mentioned them in my positional level articles, in my columns of boys or sleepers.

I’ll post a list of fades as well, but when looking at my rankings you’ll notice I’m below consensus on players like Tobias Harris, Harrison Barnes Y Julius Randle.

These guys are the NBA insiders you’ll want to follow for the latest NBA news that may affect your fantasy draft. From injuries to player absences to projected starting lineups and more, it’s critical to understand the latest news so you can enter drafts with the most up-to-date information possible.

Value per game vs. total value

I prefer to evaluate players by their value per game rather than their total value because, unfortunately, injuries are a part of fantasy basketball. players like Mikal Bridges they are often ranked higher in head-to-head leagues due to their ability to play in the most games each season. Using Mikal Bridges as an example, he finished last season ranked 24th in total value, but if you look under the hood, he finished outside the top 50 (54) in value per game. He then got a significant boost just by playing more games.

On the other hand, if you look Lebron James from a season ago, he finished fourth in value per game versus 16th in total value. You have to be somewhat optimistic and look at the ceiling before getting into drafts. Several players in the first three rounds of fantasy basketball drafts will have a managed load this year, but that doesn’t mean they won’t produce. Availability is certainly something to consider, but don’t overlook a player’s advantage. Basketball Monster is a great resource that allows you to toggle between last season’s per game and total values.

Evaluating Player Breakouts Using BetMGM Betting Odds

Do you wonder who could be the ha morant from last season? Or who makes the All-Star jump? Well, I often use BetMGM to help me determine those candidates. Evaluating players’ prize markets and their respective odds of winning provides another data point for consideration. The markets I would be most interested in seeing would be points, assists, rebounds, steals, blocks, most improved player, MVP, rookie of the year, and defensive player of the year.

It may sound trivial, but I’m confident you’ll see several of the names listed for those markets emerge as viable candidates to win their respective awards and be valuable fantasy assets this year.
