Fall 2022 Fashion Trends: Athluxury, Metallics, Oversized Blazers & More

Summer has come and gone, and now it’s time for fall fashion.

While some of us may not be ready to ditch our cool post-Labor Day whites or Barbiecore glitters, many others are open and ready for fall hues, earth tones, and cozy sweatshirt ensembles.

In addition to the traditional outfit selections that tend to return year after year, there’s a new crop of fall trends afoot, according to fashion stylist Laura Pritchard.

“Tailoring has earned its place on every catwalk during every season,” Pritchard told “GMA.” “Last fall, we saw the popular trouser suit, but it has since been replaced by gingham, houndstooth and tweed miniskirt suits, dominating the catwalks and the streets.”

She added, “We also saw the confidence suit get a makeover with elongated embellishments known as ‘the suit coat.’ It’s a look that’s meant to be worn as a full-layered look to stand out.”

Below, Pritchard walks us through some of the top fall trends to add to your mood board this season.

Athluxury

While many of us have come to know and love the term athleisure, Pritchard said it’s all about “athluxury” now.

“The sporty aesthetic is sleeker than ever,” he said. “Athletic hero brands have teamed up with luxury fashion houses, and it looks like the collaborations aren’t going away just yet. This comfortable trend is easy to pull off.

Oversized tailored blazers

“Designers have brought back the oversized tailored blazer, but refreshed the trend with extremely bold shoulders,” said Pritchard.

While this look may seem like a difficult piece to wear to some, she said it’s actually more versatile than you might think.

Stylist Tip: Pair this look with skinny foundations to balance out the extreme proportions. A basic rule to follow: if an oversized piece of clothing takes up half of your body, keep it skinny on the other half.

Another trick is to try going to the men’s section to find a wide variety of oversized blazers instead of spending a lot of money on some of the latest women’s designer picks this season.

Pritchard also recommends adding additional shoulder pads to give the shoulder a little more height.

highlight colors

Vibrant highlighter-like colors were seen all over the runways for fall, and there’s a good chance we’ll continue to see them in stores everywhere. “While not one for minimalist color, wearing the striking shade from head to toe, as seen on red carpets and runways, will certainly turn heads and keep you cool during the colder months,” said Pritchard. .

classic white tanks

Classic white tank tops are making a big comeback and were seen in runway shows for designers ranging from Prada to Bottega Veneta. “While the staple has never really left our closets, it is experiencing a mainstream moment again and is being reimagined,” said Pritchard.

Various designers paired the wardrobe staple with everything from casual denim to exaggerated evening skirts.

more metallic

Pritchard said that metallic colors were the star of many fall designer collections.

“From dresses and blouses to boots and handbags, these shimmering shades of gold, silver and black will dominate our wardrobes this fall,” she said. “This trend isn’t just for fancy holiday parties, it can also be worn casually with your trusty t-shirt and denim.”
