Erykah Badu was the winner of Clear Street Style at Paris Fashion Week

Now that Paris Fashion Week is over, we can formally declare Erykah Badu the winner of spring 2023 street style. The 51-year-old musician stood out at show after show, and not just because she could be found everywhere. reliably with one of his trademark towering hats. A big part of how Badu knocked it out of the park was his bold approach to footwear. He first focused on his feet at the Rick Owens show on Thursday, which he attended wearing a truly innovative version of the so-called ugly shoe. The pair that had bright red tentacle-like feet came courtesy of Myah Hasbany, a Central Saint Martins student who first caught Badu’s eye when he was just a teenager. (She technically classifies them as “sea anemone” leg warmers instead of shoes.) It would become one of several cases in which he defended the up-and-comer, who has not yet turned 21, and his experimental knitwear.

Badu completed the look with an oversized black jacket and several chunky bracelets, which she made sure to show off in the video below. (It almost goes without saying that she also accessorized with a top hat.)

Just two hours later, Badu went to see Ib Kamara’s debut at Off-White in a flashy new kind of shoe. He paired another oversized hat with a pair of knee-high boots that also somewhat resembled tentacles.

The big tentacles returned on Friday, when Badu showed he had another Myah Hasbanys game in his wardrobe. He stepped outside in a gray pair worn with gray sweatpants and another large hat.

After a brief break from the front row (on his Instagram Stories, Badu shared that he was somehow finding time to record music during his time in Paris), he returned to the spotlight in a light display of the trademark tone of Valentine. Let Badu make PP Pink, who has been all over the red carpet for months, feel brand new.

It ended up being the first of two hot pink Valentino looks. The night saw Badu step out in a slightly different shade of pink, again in the form of a hat and coat that extended down to her toes.

The next day, Badu attended her last show of the season fully decked out in Thom Browne. At first, it looked like we wouldn’t get to see her final shoe choice. But when her floor-length striped skirt, which she paired with a gray blazer that draped casually over her shoulders, rose as she walked up the steps of the National Opera House, we caught a glimpse: a pair of lace-up platforms and heels made from toy blocks. . . Quite an apt choice for someone whose approach to fashion can be summed up as fun.
