English heroine Jill Scott returns to ‘reality’ working in a coffee shop

After England’s victory at Euro 2022 at Wembley, Lionesses hero Jill Scott celebrated her triumphant return to Manchester in an unconventional way: by working a shift in her cafeteria.

Just five days after England’s historic victory against Germany, the Man City star returned home and stood behind the counter at the Boxx2boxx cafe in Northenden.

Posting on social media, Scott shared a photo of herself holding a dustpan and brush, along with the caption, “Back to reality and I love it! Shift held at Boxx2boxx cafeteria. Thanks to everyone who came out to say hi! Your support is really appreciated.”

Scott also took his medal and let the young fans hold it as he took photos with them.

What is Boxx2boxx coffee?

Boxx2boxx coffee is a coffee shop founded by Scott and his partner Shelly.

The store opened in April 2021 and is named after Scott’s role as a box-to-box midfielder for club and country.

“The most important things in life have always been family, football and coffee,” reads the Boxx2boxx website.

Understandably, after England’s success at the European Championships, business has been booming and Scott’s partner spoke to the Manchester Evening News about the recent increase in clients.

“Since the Euros started, there’s obviously a lot of activity going on anyway, if I’m being totally honest, but then when Jill’s in the store, it all gets completely crazy, wild,” she said.

“Everyone wants to come over and chat and Jill has plenty of time for everyone. I feel like everyone comes together and walks in. Jill will come once or twice a week, depending on her training and availability, actually.

“In the European Championship, the day it started, he went crazy. We had to have like five employees, there were lines out the door, everyone was coming in, though, from all over the country.

“We even had someone from Hong Kong, they said they had literally come from London to Manchester and walked into the store. Australia too, and hopefully it was just for one meeting. There’s a corner of football, we didn’t want it in your face or anything like that.”

Wow! I just met the legend that is @JillScottJS8 with her #WEURO2022 medal 🏅. He poured me a coffee! What a lovely, down to earth person, 5 days after the #Lionesses win, he is back at his Boxx2Boxx Northenden cafe. Scott’s Incredible Career

Scott made his England debut in 2006 and has made 161 appearances for the Lionesses in total.

Over the years, the midfielder had come close to silver medals in major tournaments on several occasions, reaching the European Championship final in 2009 and the World Cup semi-final in 2019.

England’s victory at Euro 2022 means even more to Scott, who previously won the FA International Player of the Year award in 2011.

The 35-year-old has played for Man City since 2013 but has been on loan at Everton and Aston Villa in recent seasons.

Whether the star midfielder will remain at City or move elsewhere for the upcoming WSL campaign remains to be seen.
