RICHMOND, Va. – Behind a night of running by freshman Maggie Doogan, the University of Richmond women’s basketball team won a key A-10 battle, 73-58, against George Mason on Saturday night inside Robins Center . With the win, the Spiders snapped a two-game losing streak and improved to 12-6 overall and 2-3 in A-10, while the Patriots fell to 10-10 overall and 3-4 in conference play.

“I think the hustle was there today,” head coach Aaron Roussell said. “The physical aspect was much better in today’s game. Our team has talked a lot about what works for us, and the way we were able to get a double-digit win over a team that shot the ball very well says a lot about our team.”

Doogan, with a consecutive double-double and his first career start, led the team with 18 points and a career-high 12 rebounds, along with three blocks and one assist. He also recorded his career-high five field goals, his career-high two 3-pointers, his career-high six free throws and three blocks. Junior Addie Budnik recorded 14 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the field, while junior Siobhan Ryan was the third Spider in double figures, recording 13 points to go along with an assist.

The Patriots shot 19 of 60 (31.7%) from the field, 6 of 24 (25%) from deep, and 14 of 22 (63.6%) from the line. George Mason was led by Taylor Jameson with 16 points, while Nekhu Mitchell had a team-high six rebounds.

Budnik started the scoring drive for UR, with a quick second-chance layup 35 seconds into the game. Doogan followed the play with another layup to give UR ​​an early 4-0 lead. Later, a huge 3-pointer by Doogan gave the Spiders a six-point lead with 4:25 remaining in the quarter.
