Disney+ will become an experiential lifestyle platform. – What’s on Disney Plus?

This weekend, Disney is hosting its D23 Expo, and Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Chapek hinted during the Legends Ceremony that Disney+ will become more interactive. In previous corporate presentations, Bob Chapek has spoken about Disney’s desire to build its own Metaverse, which often leaves people scratching their heads over what Disney is doing.

In a recent interview with Deadline, Bob Chapek shared a little more information about what it would be:

We call it next generation storytelling. We tend not to use the M word too often, because it has a lot of hair. But yes, Disney+ will not be just a movie service platform, it will become an experiential lifestyle platform. A platform for the entire company to incorporate both the physical things you might experience at a theme park, as well as the digital experiences you might get through media.

Recently, on Disney+ Day, subscribers were able to enter the theme parks 30 minutes before everyone else and also offered a variety of promotions to subscribers of ShopDisney, Disney Cruise Lines, Hotels and more.

While Disney+ is currently just a platform for movies and shows, things could get a little more interactive, as Bob explained:

So we want everyone to have the opportunity to come to our parks, but we realize that’s not a reality for some people. To reach the 90% of people who will never make it to a Disney park, we have the opportunity to turn what was a movie service platform into an experiential platform and give them the ability to ride the Haunted Mansion. from a virtual point of view. Utility is not just having the same experience. Maybe we give them the opportunity to do what every person in the park wants to do, and unfortunately a lot of them do, just to get off the ride. See how it works, see how those ghost dancers move…

Also, last week, Disney released a new experimental short on Disney+ called “Remembering,” which had a special augmented reality app to go with it. But it looks like we’re going to see more VR experiences on Disney+, through devices like the Oculus.

We want to give people the ability to experience digitally, something similar to a physical experience that they may not necessarily be in that place at that time. But it is even more important than that. So when a family comes to our parks, we know exactly what you did. Let’s say you stay a week. We have seven days, 24 hours a day. We know everything you do in the park. And if you give us the permission and ability through the membership app, we’ll schedule your Disney+ experience, not based on what you last saw or what other people saw this show, but what you did, what you experienced .

Disney is constantly evolving and the development of new technologies is always an important part of its plans. Disney+ is going to be a big part of the company going forward, and it certainly sounds very interesting.

Are you excited to have more interactive experiences on Disney+?
