Natalie Massenet Opens Up About Getting Kicked Out Of Net-a-Porter As She Proudly Reveals Her Latest Project

Natalie Massenet, founder of Net-a-Porter and fashion retail pioneer, sat down with WSJ. Magazine for the women’s fall fashion issue and gave you an exclusive first look at her and her partner Erik Torstensson’s latest collaboration: Donhead House. A former rectory in the English countryside, Donhead House took six years to transform for Massenet and Frame founder Torstensson. In the accompanying interview, the pair give insight into how they met, bonded and their latest labor of love: the understandably massive undertaking that was to renovate the English estate to achieve their vision of the ideal family retreat. (The couple and their family live in adjoining row houses in Manhattan full time.) In the article, Massenet tells writer Josh Levine how she felt about parting ways with Net-a-Porter after her owner decided to merge with Yoox. “This would not have happened today. You wouldn’t kick out a female founder of her successful business so a group of guys would take over and run it. It just wouldn’t happen.” In fact, the 57-year-old businesswoman said it took her a while to reframe her experience and that she no longer flinched every time she saw a Net-a-Porter delivery van. “A couple of years later, I was like, every time I see one of those trucks, I’m going to say, I did that. I should be proud, although I think they should wash the trucks.” WSJ. MagazineThe fall fashion edition hits newsstands on Saturday, August 27.
