We spoke to Meher Jadhwani, Beauty & Wellness Editor at Vogue India, about how the event captures Vogue’s global vision, how the perception of beauty has changed in recent years and what she would like the industry to focus more on.

This is the third year of the Vogue India Beauty Festival. Tell us a little bit about how it came to be and why it resonates so much with the community.
The annual event has always been about celebrating all things beauty and wellness. And especially after the pandemic, the community has found this new sense of comfort within it. The Vogue Beauty Festival has always aimed to bring the best of the industry, be it through products, treatments, hacks, tips, tricks and much more. If you have a special place for beauty and wellness, this four-day festival is definitely the place to be. And that’s why we have more and more people coming back for it every year.

How does this event reflect what is the vision of Vogue India and the global vision of Vogue?
After the pandemic, beauty, in general, has changed quite a bit. The balance tips more towards well-being and self-esteem, something that both Vogue India and Vogue envision for the brand.

This year’s beauty fest focused on facials, female hormonal issues, DIY treatments, and basically focused on making our audience feel good in their own skin. Not only that, it was celebrating people from all walks of life and creating a safe space for expression. Even the makeup tutorials weren’t just limited to everyday looks – we showcase makeup as a form of art and creativity through talented artists like Salwa Rahman and Luna. Our focus was to make sure our readers got all of their beauty and wellness needs in one place, through one amazing festival.

How has the perception of beauty changed in recent years, given the pandemic, Zoom calls, etc.?
The pandemic has helped people go deeper into themselves and be able to express themselves in a more authentic way that is no longer restrictive, whether it’s through dance, exercise, creative makeup, creating a strong morning routine, or whatever. another way. found different outlets. Beauty goes beyond the external, it is about finding a balance between the internal and the external. The pandemic gave people a chance to slow down and focus on themselves. Whether it’s through creative makeup looks, a skincare routine, or even mentioning the importance of mental wellness, beauty is the culmination of much more than meets the eye. And that’s what people love now!

You were one of the industry experts on this year’s jury. What were some of your favorite products?

iS Clinical: Purearth Mandarin Body Butter K18 Cleansing Complex Treatment Mist + Mask Alan Trueman Blowing Brush Forest Essentials Gulaabi Noor Nikhaar Skinglo Cheek Tint Collagen Protein

With so much going on during the festival, what were some of your highlights?
This year we wanted to focus as much as we could on our Indian audience, Indian creators and entrepreneurs, and cater to their needs. We let creators do what they really wanted to do, without giving them a defined outline, so they can use this platform to really express themselves or show us their wellness hack. Katrina Kaif’s favorite lipstick, Masaba Gupta’s facial massage, Bhumi Pednekar’s Indianized version of bullet coffee, Diipa Khosla’s Ayurvedic home hair treatments, Salwa Rahman channeling her inner water fairy, Suruj Rajkhowa taking us through her futuristic beauty routine: everything sheds light on beauty and wellness in a more holistic way.

Is there something you wish you had done this year?
I would have loved to do something offline: a yoga retreat that brought together some of the best nutritionists, fitness experts, and chefs in the industry to create a unique experience. Take our jury to a destination to choose, taste and make product selections.

Digitally, I would have loved to do an unfiltered photo and video shoot with some celebrities! A tribute to beauty in all its forms, showing celebrities in their natural element, as well as celebrating them when they put on makeup. It’s a journey, and I’d like people to know that it takes a lot of effort to get there. I would also have liked to do a photo shoot with eternal beauties in our industry, those who have aged gracefully! The idea behind each one is that I would like to perpetuate beauty through different parameters.

How will you top this event next year?
I would definitely like to do the photo shoot and everything I mentioned in the previous question. I’d also like to keep the fun and candor fast with celebrities and industry insiders. I think that’s something that really resonated with our viewers, and next year I’d like to take it up a notch.

And with our fingers crossed, we can also do offline integrations.

When it comes to beauty and beauty products, what would you like the industry to focus on more?
Better ingredients and a tighter ingredient list. There is absolutely no problem with chemicals, it just has to be safe. Even if you are talking about “green beauty”, at the end of the day the formula has to work on your skin. So I would definitely say ingredients really need to be a focus.

And finally, what is a beauty product that everyone should know about?
Safe K18 treatment mask! Other than that, a drugstore skincare for me (which was not part of VBF2022) is Kailas Jeevan Multi-Purpose Ayurvedic Cream. It really is the best.
