Marie Edwards and Cheri Lathrop sort donated items for the opening of the Westfield Community Clothes Closet on September 10.

A Community Clothes Closet will have its grand opening at Westfield Presbyterian Church on Saturday, September 10 at 10 am Clothing for children through adults will be available at prices ranging from 25 cents to $2 or $3. An ecumenical group of women recently met to organize the project which will involve volunteers from local churches and the community.

Steering committee members see the effort as a start to address the growing needs of the community due to unstable economic times. Marie Edwards, one of the organizers, said that the CCC is important because, “It’s an outlet to reuse, recycle and reinvent items instead of just throwing them away. Also, we believe that everyone deserves a bit of fashion in their life.”

The Closet will be open the first and third Saturday of the month at the Westfield Presbyterian Church Portage Street entrance from 10 a.m. to noon and the second and fourth Wednesday nights of the month from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Donations of clean and gently used clothing (no underwear), new shoes, boots, hangers, bags, and socks will be accepted during the Closet. and also on Wednesdays at the Presbyterian Church office from 10 am to 1 pm and every weekday from 9 am to noon at the Methodist Church on Main St in Westfield. Donation receipts are also available.

Community volunteers who can work two to four per month are also needed. Interested community members who would like to contribute an issue to this project or would like more information can leave a name and contact information with the church office at 716-326-2643.
