CLOCK! TCU Football salvages undefeated season in dramatic fashion

The undefeated 4th ranked TCU Horned Frogs needed a lifeline on Saturday when they went down 28-20 to Baylor in the 3rd trimester. A miraculous comeback in the fourth quarter saw the kicker Kell Griffin he saved the undefeated season with a 40-yard field goal as time expired.

A few hours have passed, since the comeback of the season, which occurred for the Horned Frogs of Texas Christian University. Honestly, I don’t think I believe that what happened in front of me was actually real life. It was a script for a Hollywood movie.

After Kell missed an extra point, following the Gunnar Henderson score, with 5:46 remaining in the 3rd quarter, Baylor capitalized. The Baylor Bears scored two touchdowns, to go up 28-20 over TCU.

TCU quarterback Max Duggan he had his signature Heisman hopeful moment when he led the Horned Frogs on two scoring drives in the fourth quarter. These two units happened without a star receiver Quentin Johnston in the countryside. Johnston suffered a leg injury in the third quarter. Duggan was also left without a receiver derius daviswho did not play in today’s game due to injury.

TCU scored a touchdown on a running back’s 3-yard run Emari Market, with only 2:07 remaining in the game. They failed to retake the game tying the two-point conversion, as Duggan’s pass went wide of Demercado. Frog’s defense stepped up and held Baylor to three and out. sonny dykes used all three of their timeouts, and TCU got the ball back with 1:34 left. Great pass from Duggan to Barber for 19 yards put the Frogs at the 50-yard line. Duggan had a great 12-yard scamper on third and one, as they drove deeper into Baylor territory.

With 17 seconds left, TCU called a Demercado run that moved the ball to midfield. The clock was ticking and chaos ensued. The frogs had no dead time and decided to perform their work “Bazooka”. This is the play, they practice every Thursday, where the special teams unit takes the field without question. They lined up, and field goal kicker Kell made a game-winning 40-yard field goal. Redemption, for the kicker who had previously missed an extra point, that almost made the difference in the game.

Duggan deserves a place in New York (Heisman Awards Ceremony). He had 327 passing yards with one touchdown pass and one interception. Duggan also led the team with 50 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown. He now has 2,531 passing yards on the season with 25 touchdowns and just two interceptions. Plus, he has 241 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns.

The TCU Horned Frogs will go for an undefeated regular season, next Saturday, in Fort Worth, against Iowa State.
