Cleaners: 10 of the Best | Beauty

YOur skin is not static: it is alive, it is breathing, and it changes with age, weather, hormones, stress levels, etc. So rotating your cleaner from time to time makes all the difference. If I’ve gone overboard with a liquid exfoliator or retinol, I’d go for a gentle oil or balsamic cleanser (Elemis gives a nice shine) as they feel less harsh. They are also great for drier or more mature skin types. Gel cleansers, especially those with AHAs, work well for oilier skin (Tatcha, one of my latest discoveries, is very good). Gels are also generally great for congested skin. With our cortisol levels skyrocketing (the gift of modern life), flare-ups are no longer limited to teens. If you want a range (including cleanser) created with makeup in mind, MAC’s new Hyper Real Skincare range will enhance your skin while enhancing your makeup. Ah, if only you had a cleaner that could do everything for everyone. Chance would be a good thing. That being said, U Beauty’s Mantle comes pretty close. It is a sublime gel oil texture that removes everything – make-up, excess oil, dirt – without destabilizing the skin’s PH balance. It’s not a snip, but you don’t need much and it’s easily one of the best cleansers I’ve used in a long time.
