Andy Murray Drops Hint On How Tennis Retirement Will Typically Be Announced | Tennis | Sport

Following a loss to Cameron Norrie in the Battle of the Brits in Cincinnati yesterday, the three-time Grand Slam champion told Europsort: “When I had the injury problems a few years ago and I didn’t know if I was going to be able to play, maybe I once always envisioned finishing my degree in the UK or whatever. I think there’s a part of that when you announce you’re retiring that I imagine is quite difficult psychologically as well.

“So there is a lot of pressure, I think because you want to perform and because it is the last two tournaments. The whole situation puts a lot of stress on performance. So I don’t know if I would announce something or just stop and that would be it. I dont know.”

Murray has been suffering from cramps in recent matches and flared up again during his 6-3, 3-6, 4-6 loss to Norrie. It’s something the former world number one hasn’t previously experienced to this point and he’s a little worried as he turns his attention to the US Open.
