Agricultural lifestyle passed down from generation to generation

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Those born into agriculture know what it’s like to get up earlier than everyone else and work later than everyone else. Ellen Tom is a sixth generation farmer and has worked on her family’s cattle operation her entire life.

“Every day when I work with my cattle, I am reminded that this is a product that will feed and nourish people throughout the community, across the United States, possibly the world, and that is something that is always at the back of my mind. mind,” said Tom.

Farmers like Tom know that their work is often thankless. Her appreciation comes from consumers who buy what she produces.

“I chose this lifestyle, so I don’t believe in asking things from the public. I am happy that you love my product and want to consume it. but I chose this job,” said Tom.

As technology continues to change, farmers and ranchers continue to make adjustments to the way they do their jobs. Farmers hope to set up the next generation for great success.

“Technology changes, times change and you just have to make the most of it,” said Tom. “We made it sustainable so that the seventh generation would take over the ranch.”
