Afterpay opens the doors of New York Fashion Week for consumers around the world

NEW YORK–(COMMERCIAL WIRE)–Afterpay (NYSE: SQ), a leader in Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) payments and Official Presenting Partner of New York Fashion Week: The shows, today revealed her presence on fashion’s biggest stage, taking place September 9-14, 2022, in New York City and virtually on NYFW.com. At this year’s event, the company will provide access to exclusive designer moments and incredible fashion for customers through immersive runway shows and live interactions.

The NYFW Experience

womenswear designer from New York City kim shui will present his new collection to the public in an iconic New York City location, giving passersby and travelers an open view of Shui’s behind-the-scenes production. In collaboration with Afterpay, Shui is inspired to democratize her runway with unprecedented community engagement and access.

Earlier this month, Shui began searching for models, stylists, photographers, hairdressers and makeup artists through social media, offering aspiring fashion insiders a chance to break into the industry. Shui received over 4,000 submissions and plans to welcome the next wave of talent at her show this New York Fashion Week. Afterpay and Shui have also developed the first crowd-sourced runway garment with fabric created from pixel submissions from the public. The final garment will make its way down the runway on September 12 and will then be minted into its own NFT for distribution to anyone who contributes a pixel to the design of the final garment.

Fashion and accessories design studio Area, recognized for her modern and timeless take on beauty and glamour, will partner with Afterpay to celebrate her long-awaited return to NYFW by taking her show to the streets of New York City. Screenings of Area’s SS’23 parade will appear throughout New York City at various animated intersections, cityscapes and landmarks. From September 12-14, screenings of the Area show will amaze New Yorkers while providing entertainment and a glimpse into the inspiration, couture process and creation of their latest Area collection.

NYFW: The Talks

On September 12, Afterpay and IMG will present the Navigating the new phygital era of fashion and art. Led by Melanie McClain, Community Manager at P00LS, an expert panel of prominent women will discuss decentralized fashion with the participation of Natalie McGrath, vice president of marketing at Afterpay; Michelle Reeves, CEO and co-founder of Mavion; and Elise Swopes, NFT artist. This session will take place at Spring Studios at 4pm ET and will be accessible online after the event concludes.
