Adidas x Sporty & Rich collaborate on a vintage-inspired collection – WWD

Adidas Originals has partnered with Los Angeles-based brand Sporty & Rich for a collection of apparel and footwear.

The collaboration draws on archive Adidas and vintage sportswear references, while blending them with the rest and replenishment spirit of Sporty & Rich. Sporty & Rich founder Emily Oberg drew on ’80s Adidas campaigns to influence her design process.

For womenswear, Oberg updated the Adidas Firebird Tracksuit with metallic and embroidered details. The tracksuit comes in two colourways, green with white accents and white with varsity burgundy accents. Both garments are made from Adidas’ Beckenbaeur Pique fabric and finished with an internal print emblazoned with Sporty & Rich’s wellness mantra.

“Working with Adidas was very smooth,” Oberg said. “I was surprised that they were even interested in working with me at first, but I’m glad they were. Many big brands often have a lot of red tape to go through, but they are a quiet company. They loved what we do at Sporty & Rich, so they trusted what we were going to design and gave us total creative freedom.”

Some of the shoe pieces he created include a collegiate burgundy version of the Campus 80, a white and green makeover of the Samba OG, and a white and collegiate burgundy colourway of the Stan Smith.

“There is such a crossover between the Adidas client and the Sporty & Rich client. Both of our customers love sportswear and sneakers,” Oberg said. “People can now discover our brand through Adidas, which is great for us. People love to see something new, and it’s great that our two brands are coming together.”

Adidas Originals x Sport & Rich launches November 22 on the Adidas Confirmed e-commerce app and at Sportyandrich.com.
