The restaurant caters to customers from “all walks of life,” Jacobson told CNN. Jacobson, who has worked at the family restaurant for more than a decade, told CNN that he was visiting the restaurant on his day off when Lambert received the generous tip.
He asked Smith about the inspiration behind his unexpected gesture.
“He said he was involved in cryptocurrency. He was just trying to give back to the community,” Jacobson said. “He is originally from the area.”
The restaurant has never received such a large tip, says Jacobson.
“I’m happy to see that people are giving back,” he said. “It’s a very difficult industry to be in, especially during Covid.”
The customer also wrote “Tips for Jesus” on his credit card receipt in reference to a social media trend, Jacobson says. The phrase appears to be a reference to the “tipsforjesus” Instagram account, which has been operated for several years by an anonymous user who leaves large tips on restaurant bills.
Jacobson added that the large tip “really helped” Lambert, who has been working at the restaurant for about two years.
“It’s good to know there are still good people out there,” he said. “He helped her a lot.”
He hopes the story will help customers remember to “be kind and definitely patient in our industry.”
