5 Ayurvedic practices that ‘can change your life’

Hectic work schedules coupled with erratic sleep cycles and unhealthy eating habits can affect our mental and physical health. But making certain small but healthy lifestyle changes, like taking a 30-minute walk or eating on time, can make a significant difference in a person’s overall well-being. As such, Ayurveda expert Dr. Nitika Kohli took to Instagram to share Ayurvedic lifestyle tips that “may change her life.”

“Usually people ask me to share tips for following a ayurvedic Lifestyle. Today, I’m going to share four easily adaptable practices for you,” he captioned the post.

1. 30-40 minutes of training- The importance of physical aptitude cannot be emphasized enough. Whether for weight loss or general health, one should exercise every day. Echoing the same, Dr. Nitika suggested exercising for “at least 30-40 minutes to maintain your body’s health.”

2. Have a light dinner- Dinner is the last meal of the day, so it is very important to pay special attention to what you eat at that time. Dr. Kohli suggested eating a light dinner at 7 p.m.

3. Avoid cold water- Dr. Kohli suggested drinking hot water instead of cold water. Previously sharing the benefits of warm water, she had mentioned, “Traditional and alternative streams of medicine have often linked hot water to better health, so maybe it’s time to make the switch.” From relieving congestion, constipationand menstrual pain, warm water can be beneficial to our health, she added.

4. Start sleeping at 22:00- A good quality sleep of eight to nine hours is essential. Previously, in an interview with indianexpress.com, Dr. Paritosh Baghel, Consultant Physician and Internal Medicine Specialist, SL Raheja Hospital, Mahim, a Fortis associate, suggested that the ideal time to sleep is 10 pm and to wake up at 6 am in sync with sunrise and sunset). “We sleep most soundly between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m., so we make sure that sleep well within the time is important. However, if you fail to sleep at a suitable time, you will feel like sleeping between 1 and 3 p.m., impacting your work during the day,” he added.
