4th of July Parade: 4th of July
The 4th of July parade begins at 10 am from Dunton & Oakton, traveling south through Dunton to Miner, then east to Recreation Park for the Frontier Days Festival.

Be a good neighbor and remember not to place blankets, chairs, etc. on the avenues and sidewalks along the parade route before 7 p.m. on July 3. Previous practices of reserving a space with blankets, tarps, chairs, etc. make sure a good vantage point can damage lawns, impede pedestrians, and is problematic for homeowners along the route who may need to water their driveways or mow their lawns.

fireworks safety
As Independence Day approaches and our community begins to celebrate the 4th of July, the Arlington Heights Fire Department reminds residents that all fireworks can be dangerous. According to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, there were approximately 15,600 fireworks-related injuries treated in the emergency department in 2020. This is a 50% increase in deaths and injuries over 2019.

Fireworks Safety Reminders:

Be sure to use legal fireworks, such as sparklers. Remember, sparklers may seem like a safer alternative, however they can heat up to 1,200˚F. Do not let children use them without adult supervision. In general, any firework that must be lit from a fuse, explode, and/or be shot into the air is illegal in the City of Champaign. Use all fireworks outside, away from houses, people, trees, dry grass, or any other flammable substances. When handling fireworks, always have a bucket of water and a fire extinguisher nearby. If you are injured by a firework, see a doctor immediately. If it is an eye injury, do not rub the injury as this can cause further damage. The best way to prevent fireworks injuries is to not use them at all. Attend public fireworks shows and let the professionals light them.

Residents are also reminded to keep a working smoke alarm and regularly practice a home escape plan in the event of a fire or other emergency.

Fireworks display update
The Arlington Heights fireworks have been privately organized and paid for by Arlington International Racecourse, however Churchill Downs International, the track’s owners, have no plans to host a fireworks display this year. The Village of Arlington Heights is working to explore possible options and/or partnerships for fireworks shows in the coming years. Any updates will be shared with the public.
