Design Shark International (DSI) has named Noble Igwe and Adebayo Oke-Lawal asamong the judges of its contest to discover the best fashion designers in Africa.
The company released the judges, who also include Oluwatosin Ogundadegbe and Ejiro Amos Tafiri, in a statement on Wednesday.
According to DSI, the initiative “is committed to instituting a fair, equitable and sustainable system in the selection of talented and marketable fashion designers in Nigeria, which is replicable, adaptable and measurable across Africa.”
“Nigeria is blessed with so many talents spanning various industries. Different industries are currently being celebrated across the country and making headlines around the world; from entertainment to sports to the arts and more,” the statement says.
“Fashion should not be left out of this wonderful narrative and Design Shark hopes to accelerate the growth of Nigeria’s fledgling fashion industry.
“Design Shark International was created to be the bridge that connects talented African designers with an international audience that is waiting for them.
“This initiative is the brainchild of a team of industry experts with over seventy years of combined fashion and business experience, who are passionate about giving Nigerian fashion designers the opportunity to showcase their craft to Africa and the world at large.” .
DSI said that those selected for the initiative will have the opportunity to attend and participate in the Portuguese Fashion Week “as the beginning of a journey to scale their businesses”.
HOW TO TAKE PART
DSI said designers interested in the initiative must enter two online qualifying contests for a chance to be among its 12 finalists.
It revealed that the finalists would showcase their designs at a fashion show scheduled for September 3 in Lagos state.
DSI further said that to participate, candidates can apply for the competition by submitting a one-minute video/reel of their process from start to finish of an outfit.
“Entrants must make their ‘video cover’ look like the finished outfit and use the hashtags #DSICOntest #DiscoverWithDesignShark,” it added.
“Your title should include @designsharkinternational and why you would like to be chosen as a recipient of DSI’s Fashion Designer Search.”
DSI said that entries for the contest will be accepted from now until August 27, 2022.
The grand finale of the pageant will be performed by Bolanle Olukanni and Kaylah Oniwo, while Bridget Chigbufue will host the red carpet.
