Shakira and Burna Boy heat up Burberry’s Christmas campaign – WWD

LONDON — The festive period has begun at Burberry.

The luxury British brand introduced Shakira and Burna Boy as the faces of its new campaign, “The Night Before”, shot and directed by Torso.

The campaign takes a surreal approach to welcoming the holiday season with a short film, featuring Burna Boy walking through a soft snowfall wearing a nova checked puffer jacket with attached black angel wings and a printed Santa-esque coat with the characteristic print of the house brimming with gifts. .

In the same clip, Shakira struts around in a crystal-encrusted sheer tulle gown, as seen on Lila Moss at the 2022 Met Gala, with cutlery and other objects flying around her.

The campaign features design codes from former creative director Riccardo Tisci’s tenure before he stepped down in September.

In May, Burberry reported record revenue and higher-than-expected profits in the 2021-22 fiscal year despite lockdowns in China, war in Ukraine and skyrocketing inflation in the UK.

Former Bottega Veneta creative director Daniel Lee has been announced as Tisci’s successor and will present his vision for the brand in 2023.

The Italian-born designer revealed his plans to revive his eponymous label on Instagram last week ahead of the London premiere of Marvel’s superhero blockbuster “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” with actress Michaela Coel wearing his design, offering a hint of what is expected in the near future.

“When I first met Michaela, I immediately understood that she represents and expresses everything a woman means to me: freedom, beauty, a sense of adventure,” Tisci said.
