Kim Kardashian has cooked up another wild new fashion trend, but it’s a hard no for me

Without a doubt, Kim Kardashian has been making some pretty daring (and a little weird) fashion decisions lately. She was never exactly bored with options like her revealing/gravity-defying dress and head-to-toe leather outfits and fetish masks, and now she’s cooked up another wild new trend through her brand SKIMS, but it’s going to be tough. . not for me: swimming gloves.

Yes, these are called “swimming gloves”. The Hulu star is selling these nylon/spandex gloves you can (theoretically) wear to the beach in seven different colors for $48 each at SKIMS. (opens in a new tab). Check out the bubblegum pink ones below, eerily reminiscent of Kim Kardashian’s jaw-dropping SNL monologue outfit:

What is the function of these underwater ballroom props? Well, just that, apparently: accessories. The item’s description on the site suggests that they will “instantly elevate your swimming style.” It also claims that users will make a “sexy splash”.

Let’s pause there, because there’s no way a reverse farmer’s tan could cause a “sexy touch.” I mean, at least speaking for myself, that’s what will happen to moi if I wanted to spearhead this new trend at my local pool or beach. And just as an example, it’s not like we’re seeing Kim Kardashian on vacation with Pete Davidson wearing her product, right? I rest my case.

Alas, though, rule-breaking fashion is what Kim Kardashian is after, and that’s why she even took home the Fashion Icon Award at the 2022 People’s Choice Awards. She’s been pushing the envelope with her own style in recent months, to include layers of different designer names and show off what can only be described as shoe tights. Some say it’s the 41-year-old’s way of rejecting his old Kanye West influences in her wardrobe after her split, which she even admitted was the case on season 1 of The Kardashians. But I say the billionaire elite can keep their shower mitts and leggings (along with the uncomfortable summer tan lines they’ll produce).

However, we have to give it to the TV personality for his business savvy. At the time of this writing, SKIMS swim gloves are out of stock in all sizes for four of the chosen colors. So obviously someone (other than me) is buying what this trend is selling. Plus, Kim Kardashian is making other moves, like updating the design of her bodysuit collection (courtesy of Khloe Kardashian’s complaints) and rebranding her skincare line. (The latter has already been hit with a trademark infringement lawsuit.)

I’ll be watching to see when Kim Kardashian wears the swim gloves in season 2 of The Kardashian, which premieres on September 22 for Hulu subscribers. But until then, thank God for the suntan lotion.
