Nothing makes you think summer is ending quite like the designers announcing their spring 2023 shows.

On Thursday, the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) and IMG released a preliminary schedule for New York Fashion Week, which runs from September 9-14. Although it is simply advertised as “September 2022”, this is when most brands show their collections for the upcoming spring. This season will open with Proenza Schouler, which occupies the 4pm slot on Friday, and close with the debut of former CFDA Chairman Tom Ford on Wednesday at 8pm.

There are 109 confirmed designers in the New York Fashion Week lineup, including Altuzarra, Brandon Maxwell, Carolina Herrera, Christian Siriano, Coach, Gabriela Hearst, Jason Wu, Khaite, LaQuan Smith, Luar, Markarian, Michael Kors, Peter Do, Prabal Gurung, Sergio Hudson, Theophilio, Tory Burch, Victor Glemaud and Willy Chavarria. (Last year, IMG introduced a new program called the IMG Fashion Alliance, which supports designers who commit to showing their collections in New York.) We also see the return of Tommy Hilfiger and Area, and three international brands, Fendi, Marni and Cos, make an appearance.

As for newcomers to New York Fashion Week, we have the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund 2022 finalists, many of whom have never appeared on the calendar before: Fe Noel, Sukeina, No Sesso, Elena Vélez, Judy Turner, Wiederhoeft and BlackBoyKnits will exhibit their latest collections in New York. Meanwhile, AnOnlyChild, Ashlyn, Heron Preston, Foo and Foo, Midnight Studios, One/Of by Patricia Voto and Tia Adeola join, with their official programming debuts.

“This year marks the 60th anniversary of the CFDA, and as organizers of the official NYFW calendar, we are incredibly proud to launch a lineup that reflects our founding tenet: promoting American fashion on a global scale,” said Steven Kolb, director of the organization. CEO, he said in a statement. “We celebrate the collective excellence, diversity and resiliency of our industry and look forward to a strong season of American collections alongside our esteemed international guests.”

The CFDA noted that all in-person events in the program “will be conducted in accordance with New York State Health Guidelines” and that it will post an updated Covid-19 health and safety memo in advance of the Week of the New York fashion.
