Father-daughter duo’s ‘Love Story’ reaction video goes viral

A Pennsylvania father’s TikTok post of Taylor Swift’s 2008 song “Love Story” recently went viral, not because of the memory of the pop hit, but because of his daughter’s touching reaction.

In a November 8 video post, Rob D’Urbano shared a combination of two videos: one showing his daughter Harper filming him dancing, and a close-up of Harper’s reaction as the dance takes place.

“I was telling my daughter that she was going to record me doing a dance, and [in] Actually, the camera was turned on her and filming her face the whole time,” D’Urbano explained to “Good Morning America.” “So I did the ‘Love Story’ dance where I got down on one knee and essentially proposed to her that she danced and jumped. And then the camera was recording her face and her reaction when I was dancing without her knowing.”

Since then, the video has garnered more than 19 million views, more than 2.1 million likes, and tens of thousands of comments. It has also spawned a series of similar videos of parents trying out the trend with their own children.

D’Urbano said that when he and his daughter finished recording, the results were priceless.

“First I sent it to a couple of my close friends and they said, ‘Why am I crying?’ and I was like, ‘Dude, I can’t stop watching it,'” D’Urbano recalled. “I watched it like 100 times before I posted it.”

He added: “I never in a million years thought it would be as big as it was.”

D’Urbano said that when she first came across the budding trend, she thought it would be perfect for her 5-year-old son.

“As soon as I saw him, I thought, ‘Oh, she’d be so perfect doing something like this,’ because she loves to record me, take pictures of me on her phone just for fun. And also, every time she dances for her, she has fun and is laugh at me,” explained the father of three.

“How difficult it was going to be [trying] trick her into the camera in front of her because she knew she would pick up on that. But as soon as I gave it to her, she said, ‘Why is she looking this way?’ And I said, ‘Well, I have to record it at this address. She is still recording. So she couldn’t see the screen, so she fell in love pretty well.”

Harper’s wide smile and big laugh in the TikTok post, along with Swift’s voice, are contagious, and D’Urbano agrees.

“As soon as I saw it, I was like, ‘Oh my gosh. This is amazing,'” she said. “I didn’t expect that look. I mean, I’ve always seen her laugh at me and smile at me when I do silly things. But that was a little different. I don’t know what it was.”

“It was adorable,” added D’Urbano. “It just made my day, made my year, every time I see it.”

For now, D’Urbano hopes to continue having fun with Harper, who loves to draw and dance and make the occasional TikTok video with her dad.

“The vast majority [of video comments] They were very positive and happy and it made me feel good that something we did brightened up people’s days,” D’Urbano said. “So I thought, I wonder if we could do this more often and she enjoyed it and it wasn’t like it was forced on her. and that was what I liked about him. So that’s where we are now, making some fun videos on the go.”
