Fashion insiders bring the first 810-day fashion show to downtown Flint

Flint, MI — Dressed to the nines, Flint celebrated 810 Day this year in style with a sidewalk catwalk and a showcase of area couture clothing.

Flint residents, designers, models and fashion enthusiasts converged on Buckham Alley on Wednesday, August 10, to see some of Flint’s best local designers in the first ever 810 Day Fashion Show.

The show featured six fashion designers from Flint and their brands, including Damaged’s Caron Roberts, Survivor’s Tyeshon Griffin, Federal Apparel’s Ashanti Miller, Rays Royalty’s Rayonna Smith, Clutch Collections’ Mala Blanco and Erica’s Show Room’s Erica Walker. The show also featured Veezy, a Grand Rapids designer and his Fashionaire Family brand.

Adriana Lanice, the fashion show’s producer, said she organized the event to showcase local designers, models, makeup artists and hairstylists.

“I just want to get everyone out there and push them further so they can start doing the things they love to do,” Lanice said.

Lanice began her fashion career as a model and worked her way up to becoming a runway coach and eventually organizing and producing shows. She presented another fashion show in the city in the spring of 2022 and hopes that the 810 Day Fashion Show will be an annual event. Lanice also plans to put on a show in Flint in the winter.

“It’s something you don’t normally see in Flint,” Lanice said. “For everyone to come together like this, come together and put on a great show and a successful show, it’s something that a lot of people don’t expect to see.”

The fashion show was one of several events in Buckham Alley on August 10, a day known as 810 Day in Flint celebrated due to its shared numbers with the city’s area code.

Erica Walker, one of the designers featured on the show and owner of Kold Karma and Erica’s Show Room, has a fashion design tutorial for girls ages 12-17. This program was the first that Walker showed her designs this year.

“[This show] It means a lot because there aren’t a lot of resources to learn how to do fashion design,” said Walker.
