Aaron Rodgers Rocks a Denim Look Once Again for Packers Luncheon

Green Bay Packers fans have seen the look before, but does that mean they love it less? We think not.

As he has been known to do, quarterback Aaron Rodgers showed up in style at the Welcome Back Packers luncheon, making his entrance into the Lambeau Field Atrium on Wednesday in a denim-heavy ensemble.

Wearing sporty jeans, a denim jacket and a denim shirt — a trifecta of threads also known as a Canadian tuxedo — Rodgers, his teammates and coaches joined members of the community for the Greater Green Bay Chamber’s annual event with the Packers.

Rookie offensive linemen also sported varying degrees of western attire, though none with the same level of “Yellowstone” Dutton Ranch commitment as Rodgers.

If an 85-degree day in late August seems a bit too warm for a full jean, then you’re obviously not as cool as Rodgers.

The outfit is just like the one he wore in 2019 when the Packers came to Canada for a preseason game against the then-Oakland Raiders. It was so flawless that it inspired Esquire’s style director, Jonathan Evans, to write an entire article about it, headlined “All Hail Aaron Rodgers’ Glorious Canadian Tuxedo.”

Rodgers sported a similar style in 2014, right up until the same bowling tie, when he and then-quarterback Matt Flynn arrived as a head-to-toe menace in double jean at the Packers’ luncheon.

Green Bay Packers quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers, left, and Matt Flynn wear denim at the 51st annual Packers Homecoming Luncheon at Lambeau Field Atrium on Aug. 27, 2014.

But if Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, can be applauded for repeat outfits, why not be the NFL’s MVP?

Aaron Rodgers wore a more formal Canadian tuxedo in 2018

Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers wears a lot of denim to the team's lunch in 2018.

In 2018, he opted for a more formal and tailored version of the Canadian tuxedo, complete with cowboy hat. With the help of Levi’s and celebrity stylist Mark Avery, he showed up wearing a tuxedo jacket that was a replica of one made for Bing Crosby in 1951.

(Remember, Rodgers doesn’t do anything by halves. See also his homage to Nicolas Cage’s character in “Con Air” when he showed up at Packers training camp last month.)

There is something about Rodgers’s fondness for the Canadian tuxedo that elevates him to fashion influencer. An April story by Brad Lanphear for menswear guide He Spoke Style chronicles the look’s history and credits Rodgers with helping it make a comeback in recent years.

Arguably the greatest quarterback of his generation, Aaron Rodgers made several public appearances dressed head-to-toe in denim during the 2018 and 2019 NFL seasons. These may have seemed like satirical outfits to some football fans, but the attention to detail in these settings reveals that Rodgers was making a legitimate fashion statement,” Lanphear wrote.

The same article lists Ralph Lauren, Dwight Yoakam, Robert Redford, Johnny Cash, Marvin Gaye, and Bruce Springsteen as famous Canadian tuxedo wearers.

It’s not bad company.
