The following ten items are must-haves in your RV lifestyle when you take your kitty on the road. All of these cat travel accessories should make your RV trip more enjoyable for you and your cat.

1. Cat carrier

When traveling with any pet, it’s important to keep it safe while traveling. Not only does it keep them safe, but it also keeps you safer. A scared cat jumping on your lap can be dangerous in more ways than one!

Keeping your cat in a cage can also ensure that your pet is safely stored once you arrive at your destination. That way you can focus on setting up your campsite without having to worry about your kitty being confined inside or running off.

2. Portable cat tent

Another accessory that fits perfectly into your RV lifestyle is a portable cat tent. A cat tent is a mesh-sided enclosure that you can set up at the campsite to contain your kitty while still allowing her to enjoy the great outdoors.

When you travel to new places, your cat may wander and get lost. This tent allows you to enjoy the outdoors but stay safely close to you.

3. Portable cat litter box

There is no way around this. You need a cat litter box when traveling with a cat!

This portable litter box zips shut for easy travel in any RV. When you get to your next destination, you can simply unzip it to reopen it. Plus, it’s easier to take in and out to dispose of trash (responsibly) and clean as needed.

4. Odor-masking cat litter

No matter the size of your RV, it’s still a relatively small confined space. That means you want a great odor-controlling cat litter to mask any bathroom unpleasantness coming from your furry friend.

It’s also great if the kitty litter is the low-dust type. This can help keep your RV cleaner and smelling fresh!

5. Harness and leash for cats

Another great pet accessory to take on your next road trip is a cat harness and leash. It allows you to take your kitten for a walk safely, preventing it from escaping.

It may take your cat a little getting used to, but once she does, this could become your favorite accessory. Some people even take their kittens on short walks!

6. Spill-proof food and water bowls

Another must-have item when traveling with your cat is a spill-proof food and water bowl. When you get out of your RV, you don’t want to worry that your pet spilled their food or water.

It will reassure you knowing that your cat has access to food and water all day. That, and knowing the spilled water isn’t soaking the RV floor from it!

7. Airtight Food Storage Container

When you are in nature, there are tons of bugs. From bugs to squirrels, there is no shortage of critters that would love to eat your cat’s food.

Keeping food in an airtight container keeps it fresher for your cat and hides the smell so unwanted critters can track it down.

8. Automatic laser cat toy

Say you want to go out for the day. Maybe you want to explore a new city or go hiking. What if your cat gets bored?

A great solution to that problem is to get an automatic laser cat toy. It comes on periodically throughout the day to keep your cat entertained for hours.

There are many different types of automatic laser toys out there. I like the pendant for your RV because it can be mounted from the ceiling. With limited space in an RV, the last thing you want is one more item taking up valuable space on your floor, table, or counter.

9. Indoor/Outdoor Travel Cat House

Cats like to be indoors. It makes them feel safe and secure. This is why it might be a good idea to buy a collapsible cat house.

The one I’ve included here is multi-tiered, giving your cat a better view of the surroundings. You can even add a cat tunnel to it, which I think is pretty cool.

10. Cat Window Perch and Scratcher Combo

Cats love to look outside. They watch wildlife and people and love to catch the sun’s rays when they can.

If you have the space for it, your cat would love a window perch and a small scratching post.

Your cat can rest by the window and scratch itself if the need arises.

The good news is that the hanger and pole don’t take up much space. It attaches directly to the window with suction cups so it doesn’t get in the way.

A HUGE adventure awaits you. While some of our guides are designed to explore an area in 7 days, this one can take an entire summer to see in full. We chose to start in Detroit and travel north to the “Thumb” region, but you can choose any section you like to start your adventure.

Each stop in our guide gives you at least 3 camping spots as you explore the area! The state is particularly well-suited to RV adventurers, and Michigan’s state park system is one of the best in the country. But don’t forget the beauty of boondocking. State forests abound, most offering rustic and scattered isolated campgrounds. We hope you take this and enjoy one of our favorite places in the US to RV!
